Apple won’t let me read Playboy on my iPad

November 2, 2014 By paulie 2 Comments

This week Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, announced that he’s gay. I think it’s great that the leader of one of the world’s biggest companies did this.

But before you go on thinking that Apple is a progressive company, know this – Apple doesn’t allow Playboy to be read on their iPad.

That’s right. I can browse to any porn site using Safari, an Apple product. Or I can use any Apple computing device to browse to a porn site. But if want to download Playboy to my iPad via Zinio, a very popular magazine reader I use, nope — I can’t. Not because Zinio won’t allow it, because Apple won’t allow “pornographic content”.

One more time. I can use an Apple browser or device to browse to any porn site. But Apple won’t allow Playboy to be downloaded via Zinio.

First, is Playboy really pornographic? Second. Apple makes a big deal out of being progressive. But they won’t allow Playboy to be read on their iPad?? Apple has no right to restrict what I read.

I’m mainly onboard with Apple. They make great products, the best way to run Windows is on a Mac. But it’s situations like these, where I shake my head. And, that remind me how often Apple talks from both sides of their mouth. Two steps forward, one step back.

    Update.

Now that Playboy has changed their format, women aren’t nude anymore, I can read Playboy on my iPad.

Apple used to be a great company. They haven’t been, for a long time.
