Michael Franti & Spearhead @ BellyUp

March 29, 2016 By paulie Leave a Comment

A good friend turned me onto Michael Franti & Spearhead recently. He knows music, so I figured I’d buy a ticket. I figured the worst that’d happen is I’d go see a concert.  But anytime I’m seeing live music, that’s a good thing.

Wow.

I’ve never seen a concert like this one. Michael came out into the crowd, he played on the bar — a couple of times.

Say hey

I’ve been to a lot of concerts. But I’ve never seen anything like this, where the artist does what Michael does. This isn’t an act – he really loves people. He’s genuine. He was barefoot the whole concert.

But then, he told the story of Do It For The Love, a foundation he started. The foundation got off the ground in Aspen, with the help of Michael Goldberg, who owns BellyUp. My friend plays hockey with Goldberg. Goldberg started BellyUp because he wanted to bring great music to Aspen. I’ve heard that Goldberg doesn’t make any money on BellyUp. In fact most shows lose money. Apparently he’s just a very wealthy man who loves music. I know the most I’ve ever paid for a ticket to a show at BellyUp is $90, but that was for ZZ Top. Most shows are between $20 and $60. Thank you Mr. Goldberg for doing what you do, I love going to concerts at BellyUp.

I’ll never miss another Micheal Franti @ Spearhead show at BellyUp again. I’m hooked. Seeing what I did changed how I see some things. Thank you Michael Franti & Spearhead, for your music and what you do. Love it.
