be the change you want to see in the world – start with breakfast

When you eat the way we do it’s really good for you. But that’s selfish. An even bigger benefit is that it’s good for your neighbors – the one’s you know and will never meet. Bigger still is that it’s good for the planet.

If we’re going to heal the planet we need to make healthy soil. As my friend Brook says, “build soil or die“.

Eating the way we do is about healthy soil. Renee and I are literally creating demand for healthy soil, because of what we buy. The more organic and beyond organic food we buy, we’re telling producers of the food we like what they’re doing. We’re pushing shitty food that’s bad for us, our neighbors and the planet off the shelves. The producers of this food can make a living, which creates more producers of organic/beyond organic food.

Our grocery store now has a big organic section. How did that happen? Because of consumers like us, that vote with their pocket books. Buying what we do, we tell the store what to stock.

When you eat the way Renee and I do you’re supporting small business. You’re supporting independent farmers. You’re for freedom. You’re saying you want clean air, food and water.

Saving the planet starts with what we eat. From there it’s what we buy. Then from there it’s getting involved. Anyone, and that means anyone, can do what Renee and I do.

Get that there’s plenty of people out there with boat loads of money who want to take away our freedoms. It’s a battle. They want us to be less free, we want to be more free. They want to take over our food supply, we want a food democracy — to create an ecosystem where we buy food from our neighbors. They want fast food, we want greenhouses where our neighbors work. We want to know that our food is clean and good for the planet. They don’t want us to know where our food comes from. They don’t believe in climate change, we do. They believe that extinction happens and that we should accept it. We’re thinking about 7 generations from now.

How we win this battle, and it is a battle, is to be the change we want to see. Then share our story.
