Ann Wilson show was exactly what I needed

March 15, 2017 By paulie Leave a Comment

I saw Ann Wilson last night at BellyUp. What a great show. Just a couple Heart songs, but a different mix. Great.

The rest of the night were covers about addiction, recovery, and protest – or Ann’s life. And my life. She talked to the audience. I was 5 feet away from here, looking right at her. I was 5 feet away from Ann Wilson. She did a cover of Won’t Get Fooled Again that rocked my world.

With what I’m going through, seeing Ann was just what the doctor ordered. I left inspired, my bounce is back.

For me, Linda Ronstadt tops the greatest female singers list. Then Whitney Houston. Then Ann Wilson. I could easily put Ann ahead of Whitney, just because she wrote most of her songs. Heart has sold millions of records, they’re still packing 10,000 seat venues. I’ve seen Heart play in front of 70,000 people. Whitney had great range, her voice was angelic. But she didn’t have the impact on music that Ann has had. Heart ignited the whole Seattle rock genre. Now that I put in that this context, I am moving Ann ahead of Whitney.

I think Ann is mid 60’s now, but her voice is still crisp. She can still belt it. Talking about her band she said, “we came to bring it”. Boy did they (her band).

Ann Wilson is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She’s playing at the Paramount in Denver tonight. If you can or care to, go see Ann Wilson. Because you’re seeing one of rock’s greatest female singers. Maybe the greatest female singer, depending on who’s list it is.

The setlist isn’t up from last night yet, when it is I’ll post it. But here’s the setlist from the March 10 Berkeley show, I think it’s the same.
