Thanks to my buddy blackwellspace for turning me onto this clip from Seth Godin’s podcast, Akimbo

Seth has some really good comments about Social Media.

However Seth’s comments fall short, what Anand Giridharadas writes so well about in – Winners Take All, The Elite Charade of Changing the World. Seth points out the wrongs of social media really well. But his words are only the symptom. What’s really needed, is systematic change. That starts with people abandoning social media.

Because, power is never ceded without demand.

I’ve sent Seth an email asking permission to post this clip.

I take issue with most of the Rules for Revolutionaries in my new book. Power is almost always ceded without demand, actually. It gets ceded when the base take responsibility and weave their own future… That’s how the movie studios lost power, etc.

the problem with demanding is that you’ve already established a power structure that leads to conflict.
